The buzz had been going around for a few weeks: a new film orchestra playing music from the great film classics while scenes from the corresponding movies are shown on the big screen. Don’t we know that already? On Friday evening, October 20, we discovered that we didn’t actually know this yet. At least, not in this way. <\/p>\n
The CineMusic Experience is a touring orchestra visiting theaters across the Netherlands this season. Instead of drawing the audience to one large location, this orchestra literally comes to the audience. From Emmen to Uden and from Zaandam to Deventer, the concert show can be seen in no fewer than 17 theaters. <\/p>\n
Last night was the big premiere at the Stadsschouwburg Velsen in IJmuiden. In a sold-out theater, the orchestra played one composition after another by the world’s greats under the inspiring leadership of conductor Henk Ummels: Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer, John Williams, and many others. <\/p>\n
The audience was swept away by the stories of about twenty-five films. From the enchanting Harry Potter, through spectacles like James Bond and Top Gun Maverick, to the endearing Forrest Gump and The Holiday. Ren\u00e9 Mioch, the show’s presenter, introduced the films, after which the audience could experience what film music does to you when played live. Every emotion was felt. The highlight was the solo from Schindler\u2019s List performed by violinist Hester van der Vlugt. The violinist managed to move the audience to tears. <\/p>\n
The film footage shown on the big screen during the concert show was striking. The CineMusic Experience doesn’t use the film trailers made by the movie studios themselves, but instead edits carefully chosen scenes from the films. As a result, the images didn’t just run in sync with the music, but the audience could experience the ‘entire’ film in the few minutes the chosen composition lasted. Even if you hadn’t seen one of the evening’s classics before, you were drawn into the story. <\/p>\n
