An evening of film, music, and tribute
On Friday evening, April 24, the Zaantheater continued to buzz long after a special moment in Dutch film history. During CineMusic Films Live in Concert, actress Willeke van Ammelrooy was festively honored, just hours after receiving a Royal decoration in her hometown of Margraten for her exceptional contributions to film and culture. The tribute was an integral part of the concert show and left the audience in the sold-out hall visibly moved and enthusiastic.
Red carpet, full press, and a warm welcome
The festive atmosphere was palpable from the start of the evening. A red carpet was rolled out in the lobby of the Zaantheater, and the press turned out in large numbers. Photographers, cameras, and journalists gathered to capture this special moment. During the music quiz, pianist Ruud Luttikhuizen played three short melodies. At the third one, announcing the tribute, the Zaandam audience spontaneously began singing along to the theme song from Ciske de Rat, “Krijg Toch Allemaal De Klere” by Danny de Munk.
Tribute in the middle of the concert show
Around 8:35 PM, in the middle of CineMusic Films Live in Concert, Willeke was welcomed onto the stage to long and warm applause. René Mioch addressed her and took the audience through highlights of her impressive career, during which she became an icon of Dutch cinema with films such as Mira, Turkish Delight, and Ciske de Rat. On behalf of CineMusic, producer John van der Sluijs presented her with flowers as a symbol of appreciation and thanks for her invaluable contribution to film and film culture. The moment was intimate, festive, and sincere—exactly as the CineMusic audience has come to expect.
Marco Bakker deeply impressed
Among the guests were family, friends, and Dutch celebrities, including Willeke’s husband Marco Bakker. Afterwards, he spoke highly of the concert show: “I didn’t expect this. It’s such an incredible show. And then that orchestra playing perfectly in rhythm with the film footage. Fantastic. My compliments!”
Press: “A crowning achievement for an impressive career”
The tribute and the Royal decoration led to widespread media attention. The press spoke of “a more than deserved recognition” and “a crowning achievement for a career spanning more than fifty years.” The setting in which Willeke was honored—in the middle of a live film music concert—was also praised as fitting and special.
CineMusic Special – touring the country in May
The evening in Zaandam showed what CineMusic stands for: a love for film, music, and the people who bring film music to life. In May, CineMusic will travel with the Special edition to theaters across the country, featuring iconic film music, special guests, and unforgettable moments once again. Theaters and visitors can look forward to a concert experience where film history, live music, and emotion come together—just as this special evening with Willeke van Ammelrooy proved.
